Under the Radar: Hireko Models That Might Surprise You

There are always sleeper golf clubs that aren’t necessarily popular in sales but gain a cult-like following. We would like to discuss some of those models that you may have looked over.

What makes a model popular? Is it advertising, product placement in the catalog or website or some other consideration like some clever way of getting a particular product into customer’s hands to try? One thing any golf manufacturer knows for certain is any popular product must perform well for a wide range of golfers.

Power Play Caiman X2 Rawpower Iron

The Power Play Caiman X2 Rawpower irons are a classic example of one sleeper model that even shocked me. It is by far the most heavily reviewed irons in our current line up by our customers; nearly double that of the second most reviewed iron. This is our only game-improvement iron that does not have an undercut cavity and possesses a low, forward center of gravity. The topline is relative narrow, doesn’t have a ton of offset and part of a family that didn’t go over as well with our customers as we had hoped.

However, there is something about this iron that evokes customers to give it high marks. What sells clubs today? The answer to that is distance. Isn’t it easier to hit a green in regulation with a 7 iron instead of a 6-iron? Or as an aging golfer starts losing strength, they remember how far they used to hit the ball. With a change of equipment, they hope to turn back the clock. The Caiman X2 Raw Power apparently is the magic elixir than can make this happen.

Acer XDS React Hybrid

One hybrid we had slated to be deep-sixed after the end of last year was the Acer XDS React after we decided to retire the entire XDS family. You would have thought we committed one of the seven deadly sins as we got an earful from our distributors to bring back the hybrid (and the iron too). Therefore back by popular demand, we made the full set of right-handed hybrids a standalone model.

These offer something different from any other set of hybrids we sell. They are large and forgiving where it is needed and you have a consistent set up and look at address. There is one other thing you can’t believe until you try them – they are sneaky long. These hybrids aren’t any stronger lofted, but many golfers (me included) state that these are a full club longer than similar lofted irons or hybrids they have tried. Like the Caiman X2 Rawpower irons, these too have a low and forward center of gravity.

Power Play Warp Speed Brassie Fairway Wood

Fairway woods
While the Acer XS Titanium fairways get all the accolades and deservedly so, it is the Power Play Warp Speed Brassie that gets the rave reviews even though is falls under the radar. This large headed 3 wood is extremely versatile. It can be played off of the deck or off of the tee as many golfers write. Who needs a “mini” driver when you can get the Warp Speed Brassie? If you want a Minnie Driver, I might suggest renting Good Will Hunting or watch the new show About a Boy, it is pretty good too. Oops, that’s the wrong “mini” driver, now back to the Brassie. Despite the lower loft (13º), it really is no more difficult to get the ball airborne versus another 15º fairway wood due to its deep center of gravity.

Dynacraft Hindsight II Putter

The Dynacraft Hindsight family has by far and away the most technology built into any putter in our entire line. These are true original designs and the concepts and features will help provide a true roll to the ball. It just goes to show that a product can look totally different than the typical putter you will find at your local pro shop or off-course store and that might be the reason why it works so well for those have given it a try. The forward press and roll face are built into both the blade and mallet version.

These are just a handful of the quality and affordable products Hireko offers it customer. Next time you or one of your customers has an itch to scratch and is seeking new equipment for the bag; take a hard look at some of these products too.

Just built some Caiman X2 Rawpower irons for a friend. They are great clubs with a subtle but striking look!

Going to be building some XDS Hybrids for my sister’s fiance soon as well. And the Brassie is a great idea, I just used the wrong shaft/grip in the one I built for myself. That’s gonna need to be corrected. Aesthetically it’s one of the nicest clubs I’ve ever owned.
