Why Golf Is A Great Sport

Every once in a while you need a reality check to see what things in life are really important.  You see, many of us take for granted taking a leisurely walk around a golf course.  But imagine for a second if that was taken away from you?  Well for some people, they don’t let that be a deterrent to playing golf as witnessed by Hireko customer Bob Jordan from Virginia.Thirteen years ago Bob suddenly became paralyzed and lost use of his legs by an affliction called transverse myelitis, which is a neurological disorder caused by an inflammation of the spinal cord. Once an avid low handicapped golfer, Bob was determined to play once again. Now an active golfer with theuse of a special cart you can see him swinging with one arm and scoring better than most.

To see the story and understand why golf is such a great game for all, click on the video the following link provided by Loudoun Times:

Happy Earth Day From Hireko Golf

In celebration of Earth Day, we have some suggestions for you that can help make a difference.

Join Me for a Walk Today

If you are headed out to the course today like me, forego the fossil fuel burning golf cart and walk. I do this regardless, but if this is not an option at your home course, go elsewhere for the day and get a change of scenery.  After all, that is why golf is held in the great outdoors to enjoy the environment.

Hireko Pull Cart $33.95 each

However, the biggest reason to walk is your health.  Even if you don’t want to carry your clubs, you can tote you clubs on a pull cart you can own or even rent. The exercise can help burn some calories, get your heart beating, reduce tension and get some good ole vitamin D from the sun.

Re-grip the Eco Friendly Way

Believe it or not there is a safer way to grip or re-grip

Water Activated Pip Strips $ .40 each

your clubs. If you are concerned about dangerous chemical that you, small children or animals could come into contact with, we offer individual strips of water re-activated tape.  This tape is designed to work with a couple tablespoons of dishwashing liquid mixed in a quart of ordinary tap water.  However, we found if you use Windex® (with ammonia works best) or any type of glass cleaner straight out of the container and onto the tape, this works great!  Clean up is easy, it is safe and evaporates quicker than the soapy water solution.  Plus you can strain the Windex and recycle it by pouring right back in the container.

Make sure a paint tray or similar catch basin is located underneath the butt end to collect the excess run-off.  To lubricate the tape, you have two options.  The first is to mix two tablespoons of dishwashing liquid in one quart of tap water.  For faster drying, you can also us clear glass cleaner with ammonia straight from the bottle.

Cover the grip vent hole and pour either the water or glass cleaner into the grip.  Cover the mouth of the grip and shake well to wet the interior of the grip.  Pour the solution from the grip onto the tape.  Pour more solution onto the tape to lubricate the entire strip of tape thoroughly.  Immediately slide the mouth of the grip over the shaft butt and push the grip all the way onto the shaft.

Wipe away any tape residue from the shaft and perform any final grip alignment at this time.  Just set the club aside to dry.  Allow 24 hours for the grip to completely dry if you use the water solution.  When using glass cleaner, the grip will dry in approximately 8 hours.

Use Custom Fitted Clubs from Hireko Golf

Whether you build your own clubs, have us build them or seek out a professional club fitter in your area, you know what the virtues of custom made clubs can do.  Aside from not taking those beaver-sized divots from playing clubs that are too long, you have club that you can actually hit straighter.  This means less of those white (and say it ain’t so yellow) golf balls don’t end up lost and taking the next 400 years to decompose.

What do you do when your favorite golf club breaks, is lost or stolen?

Sleep Better, Get a Backup

Over time golfers will find a club that become their go-to-club – the one they rely on when all else is not working or at least a club they have a lot of faith and confidence in. Who knows exactly why the club performs well may remain a mystery. It might not be just all of the specifications of the clubhead, the shaft, the weight or balance, but a combination of all those things that allows the club to work like magic.  But if you have been golfing a long time you know that over time things eventually break or get lost or stolen. You might have left a wedge or putter left by the green and never turned in to the pro shop. Face it, you are out you favorite club that you have come to rely on.

Take for instance Phil Mickelson’s driver at this year’s Masters.  His driver broke prior to the tournament and was shipped to Callaway’s R&D staff to surgically repair the carbon piece. This was done to ensure the loft, lie, face

angle and the shaft would be exactly the same.  Now, if this happened to you, don’t expect your manufacturer to perform this procedure, you better have a back up plan.  As a matter of fact, I think this is the first time I heard that operation was used.

But let’s say you took your normal swing and hit a tree root and the shaft broke.  Or you happen to be a strong golfer who practices a lot.  Over time from repeated use the face flattens out where the roll and bulge were or the club develops a crack around a weld.  I heard numerous stories of good golfers who have this happen who goes to extremes and explores all avenues trying to find an exact match even though that club or shaft may not be in production any more.

If you do have a favorite club or even set – think about a back up.  It is not unheard of as some golfers have a set for home and another they send down south for their winter residence. If you build your own clubs or seek out a professional clubmaker, make sure whoever builds the club(s) takes very good notes on what was used.

Keep good records of all the specifications and don’t rely solely on what the manufacturer publishes as there are slight tolerances.  In addition, take good notes on how it was built including the raw weight and frequency of the shaft, how much is tip trimmed, the final length, swingweight, etc.  This gives you the best chance of duplicating the original go-to club.

It’s Great To Be A “Lefty”

Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday

For many the Master’s is the official start of the golfing season.  After all, it is the first major of the year and for those in the northern climes, we are just getting the rust knocked off our swing just as the buds blossoming on the trees and the grass is starting to grow after being dormant for what feels like an eternity.

After neglecting lawn cutting duties this weekend to watch this year’s Masters, I think CBS finally got it.  There are more golfers other than Tiger because we saw a lot of other fresh faces, although personally I would have liked to have seen Anthony Kim and Nick Watney runs more than just highlights.  Simply there is no other tournament as exciting because there are eagle or scoring opportunities galore and the antithesis of any US Open event.

However I didn’t understand all the hoopla. If this broadcast was in 3D, it looked the same on my 17 year old Magnavox.  Maybe I needed special glasses, new TV, cable provider or better yet, standing in the crowd to see the real beauty and undulating terrain that you can only really experience by being there in person.

With the Master’s fresh in our mind there is a term that many have heard and that is “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday”.  Each and every week manufacturers vie to have their products placed in the world’s best players hands all in hopes of being in the winner circle.  Winning could mean spring boarding a company into prominence for many years to come and the reason products have become so much colorful so you can spot them by their appearance.

Your favorite golfers use the same products and brands Hireko sell like Project

X shafts and Golf Pride White Multi-Decade grips.  Services too if you saw Lee Westwood’s shirt as UPS had better placement than his club sponsor.  The player’s acting as walking billboards can have so much more meaning as well. A special kudos goes out to the pink ribbon on the left side of the winner’s hat in support of breast cancer awareness for not only his wife, but his mom as well.  I am sure there are many others like me who have had a family member stricken by this disease and the reason I was glad he had won.

But what he had in his bag were left handed clubs, even though he is a “Righty”.  That’s true as I am not making that up!  Just think about how many left-handed people learn to play golf right handed because of the additional amount of equipment available to them.

At Hireko, we offer probably the best selection of left handed products of any company – period.  This means you don’t have to make this game even harder than it already is by selecting equipment and swing the opposite of what comes natural.

Arriving May 6th, The New Dynacraft Prophet ICT 2010 Line

New Driver “A real game changer”

As I write this, the foundry is applying the last coat of paint fill on the new 2010 Dynacraft Prophet ICT club heads and putting them in the protective bubble bag to send them on their long journey to our warehouse. So get pumped up like I am as these exciting new models will be here the first week of May. You will have one more reason to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

In November of 2008, Hireko was the first company to market an adjustable driver with the capability of not only changing out shafts, but changing the lie and face angles as well. The patent pending Dynacraft Prophet ICT (Interchangeable Clubfitting Technology) instantly became 8 drivers in one. Finally, there was one head that could fit someone who hooks, another that slices and all those in-between and all with a simple twist of a wrench.

2010 Prophet Driver
In May, we are unveiling our second generation. The 2010 version is a new and improved version using the same technology but has a classic tour preferred appearance. The beauty is the adapter is the same as last year so you can remove your old shaft and adapter and install it on the new head if you want a change.

Once you have decided which of the 3 lofts you need for your optimum trajectory, you order the shaft of your choice or several if you wish as extra adapters are available. If your ball flight needs tweaked to correct for a push or a pull, you can loosen the screw, reinsert the adapter into another position. This controls the direction you hit the ball and even the impact position on the face due to the lie angle. It really does! The white alignment dot on the adapter indicates which position the club is in.

An instruction sheet is also provided to help you select the right position if you don’t want to just experiment by hitting balls out on the range and observing ball flight in all the multiple hosel positions. After you insert the adapter in another position, you simply tighten the screw and you are good to go. If your swing every changes, or you play a course that requires a different ball flight, you can make the necessary changes to the club and not your swing.

For club fitters it is the perfect club to optimize the driver with the best shaft, whether it be weight, flex or whatever in conjunction with the face and lie angles. This gives you a true sense of what each component or parameter does to ball flight. The other benefit is reduced inventory and the customer can walk away with that perfect club instead of waiting a couple days for you to order the components and assemble it, knowing full well those components might not be the exact same as what you fitted the customer with.

Hip New Dynacraft Prophet ICT Fairway
What I am really excited about is the matching fairway series. You see for years we have taken for granted that the lie angle on irons and wedges can be readily adjusted to fit our stance and allow for greater accuracy. However, that has not been the same case with fairway woods. The hosel has been considered as extra weight and as a result the modern fairway wood has progressed to form a short, stubby hosel that is generally too short to bend.

But with the same ICT 8-position adapter we use in the driver, we can now change lie angles from 2º upright to 2º flat and face angles from 2º open to 2º closed, allowing you to optimize your fairway woods to suit your swing tendencies. Just like the driver, in less than a minute you can completely transform your club to suit your preference.

If you hook or slice or just can’t stand the toe looking like it is way off the ground, there is a position for you. This is great for course management especially if you travel to different courses. For example, if you need a #3 fairway wood that can provide a draw on a certain hole and a #5 fairway wood that can create a cut for another, no problem.

No Hook Dynacraft Prophet ICT Hybrid
We have added a Dynacraft Prophet ICT hybrid. Contrary to it’s namesake it will not utilize the ICT adapter. But it will have a player’s inspired size and shape plus the perfect companion to both the Dynacraft Prophet Tour and CNC Forged irons.

We designed these as our “better player’s” hybrid as that was one hole we had on our product line. You see, the majority of hybrids on the market cater to the average or below average golfer and will at least a semi-offset hosel to prevent the player from hitting the ball with a push, fade or slice. Not all golfers have that tendency and the reason why we made this hybrid with full face progression. Picture a fairway wood with the leading edge forward of the shaft and that is what full face progression is.

What this does is produce a neutral bias or a situation which helps to eliminate the dreaded hook. Now better golfers can confidently go hole hunting with the Prophet ICT hybrid. These and I forgot to mention the fairways too, have our exclusive Variable Crown Technology to reduce the needless weight in the crown area. Plus they have the Variable Face Technology provides that more active face and this incredible sound and feel at impact.

Worth the Wait
If you are in the market for some new sticks with real technology, the 2010 Dynacraft Prophet ICT line up may just be your ticket to improving your game. We realize that no one club can please every golfer and the reason Hireko offers such a variety. But the versatility of the ICT system is a game changer that May possibly worth the wait.
